Position Summary:
The Business Development Manager has a strategic role at B2 Constructors and is responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities in both the public and private sectors. While this position involves elements of sales, it also focuses on developing long-term business strategies, managing key client relationships, and positioning the company for growth. The BDM will leverage industry expertise to engage architects, engineers, owners, and owners' representatives, fostering relationships that drive B2 Constructors' success in the commercial construction space.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Generation and Client Acquisition:
- Identify and pursue federal, state, local government, and private business opportunities.
- Leverage SAM.gov for federal project opportunities and ConstructConnect for state, local government, and private sector leads.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with architects, engineers, owners, and owners' representatives to position B2 Constructors as a trusted partner.
- Develop and manage a pipeline of leads and engage with clients to generate new business opportunities while focusing on exceeding monthly and quarterly sales objectives.
Industry Expertise and Client Engagement:
- Approach industry stakeholders with a deep understanding of commercial construction, confidently discussing market trends, project lifecycles, and best practices.
- Stay informed on construction industry developments and market dynamics to ensure B2 Constructors remains competitive and strategically positioned for future opportunities.
Market Research and Strategic Analysis:
- Source and analyze construction industry data to identify market trends, growth sectors, and potential new opportunities.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior management, helping align business development strategies with the company’s long-term goals.
- Monitor real estate trends and competitive activity to strategically position B2 Constructors in the market.
Collaboration and Partnership Development:
- Work closely with the Estimating Manager to ensure seamless transitions from lead generation to proposal development.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including estimating, project management, and marketing, to ensure alignment between client needs and company capabilities.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with subcontractors, vendors, and other industry professionals.
Client Relationship Management and Follow-Up:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients during the pre-construction phase and continue managing the relationship through project completion.
- Follow up with clients post-project to ensure satisfaction and identify future opportunities for collaboration and business growth.
Sales Strategy and Business Development Budgets:
- Develop and implement effective sales strategies to achieve business development goals and revenue targets.
- Manage business development budgets efficiently, ensuring resources are used effectively to support growth.
- Provide regular reports on business development activities, pipeline status, and progress toward sales and strategic goals.
Social Media and Marketing Collaboration:
- Manage the company’s social media presence to enhance business development efforts and promote company services.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create and distribute promotional materials that support business development initiatives.
Contract Negotiation and Closing:
- Lead negotiations with clients to secure favorable terms and ensure all contracts align with company goals.
- Ensure the legal and financial teams review all contracts before finalizing agreements.
Candidate Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the commercial construction industry, with 5+ years in business development or a client-facing role.
- Proven ability to engage and build relationships with architects, engineers, owners, and owners' representatives in the construction sector.
- Demonstrated success in generating leads, acquiring new clients, and managing long-term relationships in both public and private sectors.
- Experience working with SAM.gov and ConstructConnect or Dodge platforms to identify project opportunities.
- Strong market research and analytical skills to identify trends and present data-driven insights.
Skills:
- Excellent relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to lead client presentations and confidently discuss market trends, project scopes, and business strategies with key stakeholders.
- Proficiency in CRM systems, bid-tracking platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field is preferred but not required with equivalent experience.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of business development experience in the commercial construction industry.
- Proven track record of securing new business and building strong client relationships.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead presentations and meetings with key stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and exceed sales targets.
- Proficiency with CRM software, estimating tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and driven to succeed in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and lead projects from inception through client onboarding.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
- Willingness to travel and attend events to represent B2 Constructors.
