- Direct Nursing Services
- They will provide quality care for students with chronic and episodic conditions.
- They will administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- They will be conducting health screenings and referrals.
- They will manage acute illnesses and injuries at school.
- They will develop and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) for students with specific health needs.

Health Education and Promotion
- They will be responsible for educating students, staff, and families on various health topics.
- They will promote healthy lifestyles and behaviors.
- They will implement health promotion programs and activities, addressing health concerns and providing resources.
Care Coordination
- They will collaborate with healthcare providers, families, and school staff to ensure continuity of care.
- They will facilitate communication and coordination between school and community health resources and connect students and families with appropriate healthcare services.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Developing and implementing emergency plans for the school.
- Responding to medical emergencies and providing first aid.
- Training staff on emergency procedures and protocols.
Health Services Management
- Maintaining accurate student health records.
- Managing school health supplies and equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Participating in school health committees and initiatives.
Education
Hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from a regionally accredited college or university.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must have a current Registered Nurse license, recognized by the Delaware Board of Nursing.
- Must have a valid and current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Must have a valid and current certification in the use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED).
Additional Requirements
- Within two years of employment, complete the School Nurse Certification Program (90 clock hours).
- Within one calendar year from the date of hire, pass the Delaware-approved general knowledge exam (Praxis or approved Exemption Test).
